Production capacity at the facility in Kladno, Czech Rep. will be expanded by 25%. Approximately 200 new employees will be hired. The expansion is expected to start production in May 2012
In April an expansion of the LEGO factory in Kladno, Czech Republic will begin. The expansion will give the Kladno facility two new production halls for packing LEGO® products primarily for the European market. The total expansion will be approx. 17,000 m² and will be ready for production in May 2012.
Six months ago, the facility in Kladno inaugurated a new production hall and high bay warehouse. Due to the increased demand for LEGO products, the capacity is already being used in 2011. For this reason the capacity is now once again expanded.
With the planned expansion the factory in Kladno will have up to eight extra production lines and will be able to deliver 25% more than at present. When completed, the new buildings will provide jobs for approx. 200 new production employees. At the present time the factory employs just over 1,100 people.
Besides production halls also the warehouse capacity will be expanded along with new office accommodation, canteen facilities, parking areas and a new main entrance.
“It’s a big and exciting challenge to expand the factory, and we are looking forward to it. At the moment we’re making plans for the coming months – including the recruitment and training of many new employees,” says Carsten Rasmussen, General Manager at the Kladno facility.
The factory in the Czech Republic supplies the European market in particular – working in conjunction with the factory in Denmark. In addition to this the LEGO Group also has a factory in Nyíregyháza, Hungary, producing LEGO DUPLO® sets for the global market, and a factory in Monterrey, Mexico, supplying the American market.
